Being one of my most unpleasant projects so far, this capture is still one of my favorites. Like a fool, I set out for a desert hike with only a decent coat and hat, and no layering on my lower half. Desert nights in April at that elevation get quite cold, and the heat loss from my legs was enough to make it so unpleasant that I could continue no longer. Being several miles from my car, there was no way to quickly grab extra gear. I was unhappy that my lack of planning prevented a capture for the entire evening, but the lesson was learned well.
In addition, I met a new friend who suffered as miserably as I did and who offered me some great camera advice and kept me company while we shivered and waited on our shutters. For that reason, I’ve preserved the streaks of our flashlights and headlamps in the left of the frame where I would normally remove them.
